Football is not the most popular sport in the world, so why all the drama over it? I used to wonder why football gets the attention of so many, yet, it is not the most popular sport.
If you think about it, you would see that the sport is an attention getter. Why is that so? I think one reason is the fun of watching the game and the excitement it gives when you argue with an opposing fan.

My best guess with football is that you do not need much to play. All you need is a ball and one other person. This makes the sport accessible to anybody in the world. And, if you grew up playing football, you might appreciate when other people are good players.
The only other sport that requires less is running. You don't even need shoes for running in some places.
I'm not a fan of watching team sports on TV. That is my best guess.
