Everton Wins and Relegation War remains on fire
Everton would play this Sunday against the very difficult Chelsea at Goodison Park. Lampard's team arrived with the pressure of having to get a win at all costs as a defeat would sink them in the standings especially after Burnley's win.
The match started with a fairly fluid rhythm where Chelsea began dominating but as the minutes passed Everton began to level the situation, so the first half would pass, with Chelsea having the ball possession and Everton gradually proposing more and more, however there were no clear situations for either of the two. The second half would begin with a goal in the 46th minute by Richarlison who beat Mendy's goal after a mistake in the output of Azpilicueta and this goal would be enough to give the victory to Everton that after that goal sought to secure the result with a more defensive approach, where Chelsea sought to tie but failed to do so despite having several chances to equalize, Jordan Pickford had a spectacular performance saving multiple opportunities for his team. At the end of the game Everton would get 3 very important points that allows them to keep their hopes of staying in the Premier League for next season.
Personally, I thought that with the bad performance that Everton had been showing, they would have no chance against this electric Chelsea but they showed that despite the bad results they are not willing to lose the category. This match had stellar performances from Pickford and Richarlison who for me were the two players of the match.
Now the fight to avoid relegation is more even than ever and Everton, who in my opinion would be relegated, managed to get 3 golden points that put them in a better situation. On the other hand, it seems to me that the biggest winner of this matchday is Burnley who after 4 consecutive matches without losing, including 3 consecutive victories, now depends on themselves to avoid relegation.
The outlook for all 3 teams is quite difficult as all three have games against top 5 teams that they cannot afford to lose if they want to stay in contention. Leeds have 4 games left, one of which is against Chelsea and the other against Arsenal, while Everton have to face Arsenal and also play against Leicester, who despite not being in the top 5, are a very tough opponent. Finally Burnley, perhaps the team with the most accessible fixture, still has to face Tottenham. So as you can see all 3 still have tough games to play. I think that the team with the most complex fixture is Leeds who after having improved in their first performances with their new coach Marsch have decreased their performance and I think that they will be the team that ends up being relegated in this fight.
That was all for this opportunity friends, thanks for making it this far, let me know in the comments what you think and which is your candidate for relegation.
