My son played both and was useless at both. Never listened to coaching tips and did one or the other. One week he would run through the opposition and the following week would tackle the crap out of them, but not both. In cricket he always played across the line and he couldn't understand what I was trying to teach him. He had lessons and ended up playing hockey instead which as long as he enjoyed it didn't mind. He is a gamer and a computer is where his first love is so I had no chance. if I had played on longer and stayed involved I think he would have shown more interest. I still take him to test matches whenever I go as I still get tickets for certain games via contacts I have. Some kids love sports or they don't and believe he was trying to please me more than himself and why I never pushed it.
