No I had to stop for work reasons back then. In South Africa I was sort of looked after as I worked for Rupert and his cigarette company. I transferred to the UK and even thought he same company they were not flexible and was worried about what if I break something like a leg as they didn't care one bit. I took up reffing and was being fast tracked by the England Rugby union when my back went and screwed that one up. I was going to turn professional as had already been indicated there were 3 of us being fast tracked for that reason. Bummer but that is life. Was offered a coaching role which I never took up as it was a serious gamble. I had my heart set on reffing as it was a good career move and would be well set by now.

Yeah I can imagine. That would have been a huge change haha, you said you have kids, did you push them into rugby or cricket?

My son played both and was useless at both. Never listened to coaching tips and did one or the other. One week he would run through the opposition and the following week would tackle the crap out of them, but not both. In cricket he always played across the line and he couldn't understand what I was trying to teach him. He had lessons and ended up playing hockey instead which as long as he enjoyed it didn't mind. He is a gamer and a computer is where his first love is so I had no chance. if I had played on longer and stayed involved I think he would have shown more interest. I still take him to test matches whenever I go as I still get tickets for certain games via contacts I have. Some kids love sports or they don't and believe he was trying to please me more than himself and why I never pushed it.
