Christmas Week Sports Wrapup: Holy Crap Batman!

If yesterday is any indication of what this weekend is going to look like for college bowl games, then you better make some arrangements because you aren't going to want to leave the couch.

I was at home with @mrsbozz last night getting ready to watch the Rutgers/Kansas State game, but I wasn't able to find it on TV. Turns out they had pushed it to another channel because the Pitt/Toledo game was going long. Six overtimes long in fact!

I figured I would have plenty of time to catch up on the Rutgers game, so I stopped to watch the end of the Pitt/Toledo game. It was pretty crazy, they were bagging two point conversion after two point conversion. It's pretty clear that both teams need to put some work into their defense in the off season.

Toledo had the win in the 4th overtime only for there to be a flag.

Then they had the win the 5th overtime only for the officials to (accurately) give Pitt an earned score. It wasn't until the 6th overtime that Toledo was able to stay on the field after storming it for the third time.

Then I switched over to the Rutgers game. The Scarlet Knights were pretty dominant through much of the game, but K-State kept chipping away, and I was a bit surprised to see this morning that K-State took the win 44 to 41. That's a tough loss for Rutgers after having a pretty decent season and commanding most of the early game.

I'm actually a little shocked to find that in the early bowl games, there were a few more overtimes as well. Northern Illinois took Fresno State into two overtimes in the Idaho Potato Bowl before beating them 28 to 20. Meanwhile, South Florida took San Jose State into five overtimes before beating them 41 to 39 in the Hawaii Bowl.

Today Oklahoma takes on Navy at noon in the Armed Forces Bowl, at 3:30 Georgia Tech faces Vanderbilt in the Birmingham Bowl, and at 7:00 Texas Tech faces Arkansas in the Liberty Bowl.

If you can stay up late enough, the Holiday Bowl is at 8:00 with (21) Syracuse facing Washington State, and at 10:30 Texas A&M goes against USC in the Las Vegas Bowl.

After that, we have eight bowl games on Saturday. I'm not going to list them all, but if I had to pick a few that I am probably going to keep my eye on... Boston College vs. Nebraska in the Pinstripe Bowl, (18)Iowa State vs. (13) Miami in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, and (17) BYU vs (23) Colorado in the Alamo Bowl.

Then next week we have even more bowl games! I'll wait until then to cover them.

If you get tired of college football, there are four top 25 basketball games tomorrow and then another six on Sunday.

Needless to say, we have a lot to be excited about if you are a college sports fan over the next week or two. It's going to be a bit cray cray!

I would really love it if Nebraska could pull off this win. They are favored by 7 in the books and it would really do a lot of their fanbase if they could end this season on a high note.

It was a really good game, I thought they were going to let it slip away for a bit there, but they pulled through!

I was sat there expecting them to blow it, not because they have a history of doing that, they don't at least not this year. I was expecting them to lose because I desperately wanted them to win.

Yeah, it's a thin line between hope and just being delusional sometimes!
