I do not know if it is true, but I heard that if the bees extinct, then we (humans) would also extict after four years (because of food shortage), because they keep alive the plants and crops. If that is true, then they are really much more important. They are essential/indispensable. They are maintaining the life as we currently know on this planet. So if they die, then we also die.

@xplosive, this may be true, but there have been so many species of bees and so many species of insects lately (at least I see new ones every day that I haven't seen before). Many of them do the same as bees - they spread pollen from flowers. I don't think the bees will die and disappear all of a sudden. And there will certainly be other animals to replace them. Our planet is suffering severely from many other problems at the moment - at least from its relentless pollution with anything. The pandemic itself is currently exacerbating the tragedy, encouraging the production and continued use and disposal of chemicals and plastics. So, we will destroy ourselves long before we destroy the bees.
