Todos o casi todos los niños cubanos en su momento disfrutamos de los llamados Juegos de Mesa. Sobre todo en mi generación que no existían los celulares y una de las vías de ocio y recreación que teníamos en los barrios, escuelas y nuestras casas era estos populares juegos. En este post les recordaremos algunos de estos pasatiempos que les despertarán recuerdos de su niñez a muchos.

All or almost all Cuban children at one time enjoyed the so-called board games. Especially in my generation when there were no cell phones and one of the ways of leisure and recreation we had in the neighborhoods, schools and our homes were these popular games. In this post we will remind you some of these pastimes that will awaken memories of your childhood to many.

El Parchís:
Este es un juego que cuenta con un tablero con casillas en un cartón o cartulina, participan mínimo 2 jugadores y máximo 4, con cuatro fichas por cada uno y un par de dados. El objetivo del juego es llevar todas tus fichas (las 4) hasta el centro del tablero, utilizando estrategias y sobre todo la suerte de los números que caigan al tirar los dados. Es un juego bastante dinámico y entretenido, sobre todo cuando se pone la ley de "comerse" las fichas de los demás participantes.

Parcheesi:
This is a game that has a board with squares on a cardboard or cardboard, involving a minimum of 2 players and a maximum of 4, with four chips for each player and a pair of dice. The objective of the game is to take all your chips (all 4) to the center of the board, using strategies and above all the luck of the numbers that fall when rolling the dice. It is a quite dynamic and entertaining game, especially when the law of "eating" the chips of the other participants is put in place.

Los Yaquis:
Para poder jugar a los yaquis es necesario una cierta cantidad de piezas que cuentan con 6 paticas o puntas para explicarlo de alguna manera (estos son los llamados yaquis) y una pelotica de goma o plástico pero siempre con el objetivo de que rebote. Existen diferentes modalidades de practicarlo pero la principal es el que más yaquis recoja del suelo o de la mesa cuando la pelota rebota una sola vez, siendo la agilidad, la habilidad primordial para poder ganar. El número de participantes es ilimitado.

Yaquis:
In order to play yaquis, it is necessary to have a certain number of pieces that have 6 paws or points to explain it in some way (these are called yaquis) and a rubber or plastic ball, but always with the objective that it bounces. There are different modalities to practice it but the main one is the one that picks up more yaquis from the floor or the table when the ball bounces only once, being the agility the main skill to be able to win. The number of participants is unlimited.

Palitos Chinos:
En este pasatiempo lo mismo pueden participar 2 o más participantes. Se juegan con una serie de palitos o palillos pequeños y finos que tienen sus colores, los cuales una vez acordado antes de empezar se les da un valor de puntos. Para comenzar el juego un participante agrupa los palitos entre sus dos manos sobre una superficies y los deja caer esparciendose al azar. El jugador en turno tiene el objetivo de ir recogiendo palito por palito pero con el requisito de mover solamente el que se va recoger o de lo contrario pierde su partida. Al final del juego se suman los puntos de los palitos recogidos, siendo el concursante de más puntos obtenidos el ganador.

Chinese Sticks:
This pastime can be played by 2 or more participants. The game is played with a series of small and thin sticks or chopsticks that have their colors, which once agreed upon before starting are given a point value. To start the game a participant groups the sticks between his two hands on a surface and drops them randomly. The player in turn has the goal of picking up stick by stick but with the requirement to move only the one to be picked up or else he loses his game. At the end of the game the points of the collected sticks are added up, being the contestant with the most points the winner.

Cartas o Naipes:
Con las tradicionales cartas de orígen español se podía jugar un sin número tipo de juegos: la brisca, el faraón, el solitario, la guerra, etc. Se podía jugar en dependencia del juego en solitario o hasta más de 5 jugadores. Sin dudas este era el favorito de muchos por su variedad y dinamismo.

Cards:
With the traditional cards of Spanish origin it was possible to play a great number of games: brisca, faraón, solitaire, war, etc. Depending on the game, it could be played alone or with more than 5 players. Undoubtedly this was the favorite of many for its variety and dynamism.

Los Rompecabezas:
Era muy sencillo y a la vez muy complejo, su objetivo era armar una imagen que estaba dividida en muchas piezas que tenían que encajar en su lugar. A algunos les costaba horas terminarlos, a otros les costaba días.

Puzzles:
It was very simple and at the same time very complex, its objective was to assemble an image that was divided into many pieces that had to fit into place. Some took hours to finish, others took days.
