De adolescente siempre me gustó ir al cine. Claro, cuando yo era más joven no existían internet ni teléfonos celulares, así que el cine y la TV eran un buen entretenimiento. La salida clásica con los amigos era Coppelia-Cine Yara-Malecón, y en esos años vi muchas películas en el Yara. También solía ir mucho a un cine que quedaba “relativamente” cerca de mi casa, la Fundación del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano.
La FNCL es una asociación que se creó con el fin de ayudar a promover el desarrollo del cine en Latinoamérica y rescatar sus raíces culturales. Aquí además se celebran eventos, festivales y talleres sobre cine.
La Fundación, como le decíamos, era el sitio donde más me gustaba ir a ver películas. No era un cine tradicional, sino una casa rodeada de árboles, con una gran terraza, y un salón en su interior lo habían transformado en una sala de cine. La sala era pequeña pero muy acogedora, con unos butacones muy cómodos de un color rojo vino precioso. La pantalla tenía una cortina también roja que se abría lentamente antes de empezar la película. Es la sala de cine más bonita en el que he estado.
Aquí fue donde vi por primera vez las películas Titanic y Philadelphia, entre otras. Ni qué decir que con Titanic salí soltando lágrimas, y algunos mocos, a más no poder ¿Cómo fue posible que Jack no se pudiera salvar? Pero bueno ya lo rebasé, en fin, cosas de películas. Este cine es un lugar del que recuerdo buenos momentos, Titanic aparte 😂🧊🚢.
Y como se dice que uno siempre regresa a donde fue feliz, pues regresé hace poco, esta vez con mi niña. Vinimos a una actividad que coordinó su aula de primer grado para que los niños fueran a disfrutar de una película animada en 3D. Primero me asombré, pensé que el cine no estaba abierto, y después me entusiasmé más que la niña por poder visitar el lugar nuevamente.
La película que escogieron los niños fue “Coco”, un animado precioso, con una trama muy bonita, lleno de canciones y muy colorido, además en la pantalla 3D se veía todo muy realista, creo que lo disfruté más yo que mi niña.
Los niños se portaron muy bien, estaban muy concentrados en el animado y estuvieron atentos durante toda la función. La película tiene un mensaje muy bonito que a mí siempre me pone un poco sentimental, pero esta vez traté de contener mi emoción.
Cuando acabó la función me puse a recorrer el lobby. Aquí hay varias fotografías de algunos de los intelectuales y artistas que han pasado por este lugar. En muchas de ellas aparece el escritor colombiano Gabriel García Márquez, ya que por un tiempo estuvo a cargo de la presidencia de la Fundación del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano.
Los niños se tomaron algunas fotos y después los llevamos a la cafetería, que tiene un gran patio con mesas muchos árboles y mucha sombra natural, un lugar muy agradable. Aquí hubo más fotos y más diversión 🤩.
Aunque no pudieron asistir muchos niños esta primera vez, los padres nos pusimos de acuerdo para hacer esta actividad mensual y que así los niños tengan un espacio fuera de la escuela donde encontrarse y pasar un rato entretenido. A mí me encantó volver y ver que el lugar está casi igual a como lo recuerdo, lo han sabido mantener muy bonito y bien cuidado 💛.

As a teenager I always liked going to the cinema. Of course, when I was younger there was no internet or mobile phones, so movies and TV were good entertainment. The classic outing with friends was Coppelia-Cine Yara-Malecón, and in those years I saw many films at the Yara. I also used to go a lot to a cinema that was ‘relatively’ close to my house, the Foundation of New Latin American Cinema.
The FNCL is an association that was created to help promote the development of cinema in Latin America and rescue its cultural roots. It also hosts film events, festivals and workshops.
The Fundation, as we used to call it, was the place where I most liked to go to see films. It wasn't a traditional cinema, but a house surrounded by trees, with a large terrace, and a room inside that had been transformed into a cinema. The room was small but very cosy, with very comfortable armchairs in a beautiful wine-red colour. The screen had a red curtain that opened slowly before the film started. It is the nicest cinema I have ever been in.
This is where I first saw the films Titanic and Philadelphia, among others. Needless to say, with Titanic I came out in tears, and a few snotty noses. How was it possible that Jack couldn't save himself? But well, I'm over it, anyway, movie stuff. This cinema is a place where I remember good times, Titanic aside 😂 🧊🚢.
And as they say that you always go back to where you were happy, I went back recently, this time with my little girl. We came to an activity coordinated by her first grade classroom for the children to go and enjoy a 3D animated film. At first I was amazed, I thought the cinema wasn't open, and then I was more excited than my daughter to visit the place again.
The film of choice for the children was ‘Coco’, a beautiful animated film, with a very nice plot, full of songs and very colourful, plus on the 3D screen everything looked very realistic, I think I enjoyed it more than my little girl.
The children behaved very well, they were very focused on the animation and were attentive during the whole show. The film has a very nice message that always makes me a bit sentimental, but this time I tried to contain my emotion.
When the screening was over I started to walk around the lobby. Here are several photographs of some of the intellectuals and artists who have passed through this place. In many of them appears the Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez, since for a time he was in charge of the presidency of the New Latin American Cinema Foundation.
The children took some photos and then we took them to the cafeteria, which has a large patio with tables, many trees and lots of natural shade, a very nice place. Here there were more photos and more fun 🤩.
Although not many children were able to attend this first time, the parents agreed to do this monthly activity so that the children have a space outside school where they can meet and have a fun time. I was delighted to come back and see that the place is almost the same as I remember it, they have managed to keep it very nice and well looked after 💛.
