Saludos, amigo de Hive. Ahora que seremos compañeros de viaje, de complicidades, de edificaciones mutuas, crecimientos, quiero abrirme ante ustedes con pequeña, pero muy honda confesión.

Cada vez que suena un acorde, un cuerpo traza una impronta sinuosa y parece flotar sobre las puntas en la escena, cada vez que un actor reta al mundo enarbolando un discurso que para algunos puede ser provocador o transgresor, vibro. Me estremezco. Es como si de repente un relámpago me golpeara, como si pudiera acceder de golpe al corazón de todas las cosas.

Suena extraño, pero es así. Para alguien como yo, que he transitado, aprendido, ejercido, casi todas las manifestaciones del arte, esos efectos son inevitables.

Greetings, friend of Hive. Now that we will be fellow travelers, of complicities, of mutual edifications, growths, I want to open up to you with a small but very deep confession.

Every time a chord sounds, a body traces a sinuous imprint and seems to float on the tips on the scene, every time an actor challenges the world by raising a speech that for some may be provocative or transgressive, I vibrate. I shudder. It's as if suddenly a lightning bolt strikes me, as if I can suddenly access the heart of all things.

It sounds strange, but that's how it is. For someone like me, who has gone through, learned, exercised, almost all the manifestations of art, these effects are inevitable.

Mi nombre es Emanuel Gil Milian (1990), soy Máster en Estudios Teóricos de la Danza, egresado de la Universidad de las Artes de Cuba y pronto, si Dios lo permite, tendré en este mes de marzo, exactamente el 23 de marzo, mi segunda Maestría. Esta vez me he de graduar de Máster en Procesos Formativos de la Enseñanza de las Artes, en la mención: Teatro.

He dedicado mi vida a estudiar y aprender arte. He vivido para el arte y el arte me ha hecho vivir. Cuando me parece que he estado reducido a raíces, que no me ha quedado nada, curiosamente mis sueños, el arte me ha salvado.

Desde pequeño sentía que quería ser artista. Comencé escribiendo cuentos, cantando en coros, haciendo teatro de títeres con mis compañeros de aula y mi maestra. Hasta tuve la dicha de ser premiado por escribir y represar uno de mis textos “El grillito que quería ser grande”.

My name is Emanuel Gil Milian (1990), I am a Master in Theoretical Studies of Dance, graduated from the University of the Arts of Cuba and soon, God willing, I will have in this month of March, exactly on March 23, my second Master's Degree. This time I will graduate with a Master's Degree in Formative Processes in Arts Education, in the mention: Theater.

I have dedicated my life to study and learn art. I have lived for art and art has made me live. When it seems to me that I have been reduced to roots, that I have nothing left, curiously my dreams, art has saved me.

Since I was a child I felt I wanted to be an artist. I started writing stories, singing in choirs, doing puppet theater with my classmates and my teacher. I even had the joy of being awarded for writing and performing one of my texts "El grillito que quería ser grande" (The little cricket who wanted to be big).

Mi madre, Alicia Milian, tuvo siempre el tino de seguir mis pasos, alentarme, retarme. Conocía todo lo que me arrastraban las manifestaciones del arte y la literatura. Así fue que me llevó a la Casa de Cultura de mi municipio, Consolación del Sur, a participar en talleres literarios y a los ensayos de obras de teatro. También me llevó a las clases particulares de piano y percusión.

Mi padre, más de las humanidades, se esforzó, hasta donde pudo, para que sobre los cinco años recibiera clases de inglés. Luego alcanzaría tercer nivel en esta lengua. Todavía me debo el cuarto y final. Pero es algo que ya está en lista para este año.

Disfrutaba todo. Encontraba diversión en aprender y luego mostrar a los demás. Toda esa etapa, la que ha correspondido a mi formación, ha conformado una parte muy significativa del mapa de mi felicidad.

My mother, Alicia Milian, always had the good sense to follow in my footsteps, to encourage me, to challenge me. She knew everything that the manifestations of art and literature dragged me. So she took me to the House of Culture of my municipality, Consolación del Sur, to participate in literary workshops and to the rehearsals of plays. He also took me to private piano and percussion lessons.

My father, more of the humanities, made an effort, as far as he could, so that around the age of five I received English classes. I would later reach third level in this language. I still owe me the fourth and final one. But it is something that is already on the list for this year.

I enjoyed everything. I found fun in learning and then showing others. That whole stage, the one that corresponded to my training, has formed a very significant part of the map of my happiness.

Como también lo fueron mis viajes con mis padres, los juegos de fútbol con mis amigos, mis ponches en el juego de baseball, mis juegos a las canicas, los viajes a la playa, los juegos de dominó hasta las tres de la madrugada, mis viajes de pesca junto a mi padre (algo que todavía amo y que por falta de tiempo, el trabajo, no he podido concretar en estos últimos años).

Una vez egresado de Nivel Superior, de Posgrado, en la Universidad de las Artes de Cuba (ISA), se han sumado otras satisfacciones. Los saberes de la vida, mis tránsitos por el arte y las letras han forjado un destino. Soy un Homocriticus Artem. No lo niego.

Escribo crítica de arte porque me apasiona reaccionar, explicarme y explicar, vivir el arte por dentro. Apresar cada instante, deconstruirlo, ha sido una de mis pasiones más gratas; si bien la experiencia en ocasiones suele ser difícil.

As were my trips with my parents, the soccer games with my friends, my punches in the baseball game, my marbles games, the trips to the beach, the domino games until three in the morning, my fishing trips with my father (something I still love and that due to lack of time, work, I have not been able to do in recent years).

Once I graduated from the Post-Graduate level at the University of the Arts of Cuba (ISA), other satisfactions have been added. The knowledge of life, my transits through art and literature have forged a destiny. I am a Homocriticus Artem. I do not deny it.

I write art criticism because I am passionate about it reacting, explaining and explaining myself, living art from the inside. To capture each instant, to deconstruct it, has been one of my most pleasing passions; although the experience is sometimes difficult.

Porque pensando en esto último, en ocasiones no siempre nos topamos con una notable propuesta artística. Ante esto, la razón, más que la emoción inmediata, debe operar. Pujar las palabras exactas sin paternalismos, aquellas palabras que se cuelen en la conciencia del otro y abran instantes de luz, me han hecho arar desde de la honestidad y el amor: a fin de cuentas la crítica es un acto de acompañamiento al arte.

Esos han sido los cardinales que han guiado mi trabajo y mi vida. Los que me han garantizado el honor de publicar varias de mis críticas –reseñas, artículos- en las revistas de arte más prestigiosas de Cuba: la Jiribilla del Ministerio de Cultura; Cubaescena y Tablas del Consejo Nacional de las Artes Escénicas; el Portal del Joven Arte Cubano , de la Asociación de Jóvenes Artistas y Escritores de Cuba “Hermanos Saíz”.

No menos he disfrutado desempeñarme como maestro de Kinesiología e Historia en la Danza de la Escuela de Arte de la ciudad donde habito, Pinar del Río. Dejar una huella en mis alumnos, contribuir a verlos crecer es algo muy satisfactorio, porque con ellos también me elevo.

Because thinking about the latter, sometimes we do not always come across a remarkable artistic proposal. In the face of this, reason, more than immediate emotion, must operate. Pushing for the exact words without paternalism, those words that slip into the conscience of the other and open moments of light, have made me plow from honesty and love: after all, criticism is an act of accompanying art.

These have been the cardinal points that have guided my work and my life. Those have guaranteed me the honor of publishing several of my reviews -reviews, articles- in Cuba's most prestigious art magazines: the Jiribilla of the Ministry of Culture; Cubaescena and Tablas of the National Council of the Performing Arts; the Portal del Joven Arte Cubano , of the Association of Young Artists and Writers of Cuba "Hermanos Saíz".

I have enjoyed teaching Kinesiology and History of Dance at the Art School of the city where I live, Pinar del Río. Leaving a mark on my students, contributing to see them grow is something very satisfying, because with them I also elevate myself.

Lo mismo que ha sucedido con mi trabajo de Asesor del Centro de las Artes Escénicas de Pinar del Río, en particular de las compañías danzarias de mi ciudad. Aportar con cada criterio a que sus producciones escénicas sean la mejores, aquellas que conquisten el corazón del público, ha sido una batalla.

En eso, mi rol como crítico, el criterio que les pueda ofrecer, ha sido mi mejor baraja, mi legado. Me lo recuerdan el público que acude dos veces al mes a mi espacio de Crítica Artística y Literaria “Lente”, auspiciado por el Centro Provincial del Libro y la Literatura de Pinar del Río, donde presento diversos volúmenes sobre literatura y arte, en que se debaten temas culturales con mis invitados. Pero también mis colegas de trabajo teatral, quienes acuden para que los asesore con sus propuestas escénicas.

A uno de ellos, Iran Capote, debo agradecer que haya revelado la existencia de esta magnífica plataforma, Hive. Sin él, nunca hubiese llegado hasta este punto.

The same has happened with my work as Advisor to the Performing Arts Center of Pinar del Río, particularly to the dance companies of my city. To contribute with every criterion to make their stage productions the best, those that conquer the hearts of the public, has been a battle.

In that, my role as a critic, the criteria I can offer you, has been my best deck of cards, my legacy. I am reminded of it by the public that comes twice a month to my space of Artistic and Literary Criticism "Lente", sponsored by the Provincial Center of Book and Literature of Pinar del Rio, where I present various volumes on literature and art, where cultural issues are discussed with my guests. But also my colleagues in theatrical work, who come to me for advice on their scenic proposals.

To one of them, Iran Capote, I must thank him for having revealed the existence of this magnificent platform, Hive. Without him, I would never have reached this point.
