Tele Tuesday - Get back John!

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

This is another piece from an old magazine. This time it is Guitarist from February 1996 and their solo analysis is for The Beatles' Get Back. It seems this was a rare one in being played by John Lennon. It is pretty short and is partly repeated, but has some tricky bits. I expect he did not do lots of takes as they worked quickly back then and did not have the luxury of lots of tracks to record on.

The backing track is from GuitarBackingTrack.com, which has loads of songs with various versions. It seems this is the only one from this contributor, but it is pretty good.

John was probably playing his Epiphone, but I think the tone from my Benford Telecaster's neck pickup is nice.

Steve Benford who made my guitar just posted a couple of Teles he just finished that were made from material salvaged from a local music venue that burned down last year. They are gorgeous and are being donated to raise funds for the venue.

Let us see if 3speak is working this week. Last time the post did not appear until Wednesday afternoon. UPDATE: This time it was up in a few minutes. Looks like the queue is pretty short.

Sort:

excellent playing. that tone is magnificent; rich and just the right amount of creaminess

Cheers. I was happy with it.

Nice job! Nice tone!

Those guitars look amazing! I can imagine they will cost a small fortune for a good cause. They would be great to have especially if you had a real connection with the venue.

Cheers. Benford makes some great guitars and many are unique. He's also a great guitarist. He was part of the Six String Bliss community I was in, but it has sort of died off since the podcast stops. I miss those guys.

It sure does look great!!! And sounds great too!!

Cheers. I treated myself to this guitar a few years back. It was custom made, but actually no more expensive than a US Fender.

That's a pretty nice treat! ;-) But indeed for a rather decent price still...
My last treat on wood was an Ibanez 5 string bass, the EDB555, second hand ;-) But I've just added the Spark amp to my collection to reduced the number of amp stacks in the living room :-D (a big ass Fender Bass amp & Engl combo guitar amp)
What Amp are you using?

I was playing through a Zoom G3X effects unit that goes straight into my audio interface. I have a couple of amps, but they don't get used too much lately. Thinks like the Spark look good. Musicians are spoiled by cool gear these days.

Same here, the amps are used less and less, only for rehearsals and live stuff... And indeed, lots of cool gear on the market now! Love the zooms too, was first thinking about getting one of those, but decided on the Spark (for now ;-) )

Command accepted!

Hey @gtown, you were just shared some LUV. With at least 5 LUV in your wallet, you can give 3 LUV per day, for free. See the LUV tokens in your wallet at https://hive-engine.com or learn about LUV at https://hive.blog/@luvshares https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmZosc5B9VvqHJs1xVbLoxxGGc6BfmwJukG1dAr3J6PBLX

This is probably one of my favorite songs of theirs. At least in the top 20. I know it is hard to pin a single one down. Nice job! I was thinking today that your next challenge should be to tackle the Top Gun anthem. It actually doesn't seem like it would be too hard. The pace is pretty decent and it feels like it is only a couple of chords. Plus no crazy fingers of fury stuff (except maybe the bridge).

I've still got a load of magazines to work through. Things like a solo or a simple tune are convenient to work on for a day or two for a video whilst learning something new. In the limited time I have for playing I have to pick and choose. I think some guys on my old guitar forum did the Top Gun theme.

It is a fantastic song! Like I said it seems much less complex now that I am older than it did when I was a youngster!

What does that button do on your guitar? Is it similar to buckethead's button control that kills the volume?

It is a kill switch. Just thought it would be fun to have, but not used it much yet.

Cool I once thought about getting buckethead's signature les paul because of the cool arcade style killswitch on it.

As I was having the guitar built for me I got to choose the controls and the layout. It worked out well.

Thanks for continuing to make Hive awesome.

Love it! And a great sound indeed ;-)

Nice bro!
