Hello everyone, back again with cooking. This time, we will make Isaan Thai food as usual. But today's menu has changed the main menu from papaya to Kohlrabi or Turnip Cabbage. This menu is Som Tam. Because in Italy, green papaya is very rare and not popular to eat. Only Asian restaurants can buy it very often. So I saw some Thai people pounding kohlrabi. Today, I will introduce and take everyone to make this menu.

  • And today, I will introduce the equipment used to make Som Tam. This equipment is called a mortar. It is a tool that when you see it, you will think of this menu. Because if it is in Thailand This mortar(Krok) is like a unique feature in making papaya salad. If there is no mortar, the menu will be similar to a salad, which is to mix and match. But this is to hit with a pestle, making it more flavorful. And this mortar is made of wood. I got it from Thailand and I really like it.

Kolabi or Turnip Cabbage is a vegetable that is beneficial to health. It is high in vitamin C, carbohydrates, potassium, iron, fiber. These vitamins help reduce the risk of high blood pressure, lower cholesterol, prevent heart disease, lower blood sugar, help the digestive system and excretion, relieve constipation, nourish the brain, prevent Alzheimer's disease, relieve heat in the body, remove toxins from the body, nourish the kidneys, nourish the bones and reduce stress. Sleep well. Seeing so many properties like this, don't hesitate to see how to make it.

Preparation steps
  • Wash the turnip or turnip and carrot, peel them, and chop and slice them into small pieces until they are all gone. Then set aside (If you want them to be crispy, I recommend soaking them in cold water or ice).

  • Pound the chilies and garlic until fine, then cut the tomatoes and put them in. Followed by lime and pound until the tomatoes are fine but not too fine, just enough to release some water.

  • Add the fermented fish sauce, then add the chopped turnip or kolabi and carrots and pound them without using too much force to make them too fine, just enough to blend with the seasonings. Then taste. Some people may add more sugar, but for me I don't because the fermented fish sauce is already prepared.

  • When done, scoop it onto a plate. Today I have a little leftover rice noodles, boil it and eat it with the kolabi som tam. Some people pound it and add it to another menu called tam sua. In addition to the rice noodles, today I also have baked chicken that I will eat with the som. It goes very well together.

  • And this is the kolabi som tam or turnip cabbage, a menu that can be used instead of papaya. For those who are not in Thailand, you can modify it. The taste is similar, but it may have a slightly pungent smell. For me, I like it very much. And since I got the kolabi or turnip cabbage, I have never bought papaya again.

I will use this instead because papaya is both expensive and very hard to find. If anyone wants to try making it, go ahead and do it. I hope everyone likes my meal. Thank you for following me. Have a nice day.
