Wow. That is amazing. I have no recollection of hearing about this before. What kinds of health risks do they pose?

I can't imagine any of this is great for the people living in the area.

The water, the air, the soil? For most, I don't think there's any immediate danger, but for those living close to facilities, I'm sure there are more pollutants.

Does this happen outside if the US as well? I have heard that the pollution in Los Angeles is quite bad because of traffic. This can't help matters much.
