18 years ago, on this day one of the most meritorious figures of DMC K-49 Dr. Muntazirul Hai Sabir passed away. Besides being a cricketer, debater and a reciter he had another feather in his cap- the first boy of Dhaka Medical College.
I remember, I had newly learnt palmistry then. One day in the stairs as I was going through everyone's life line and heart line, Sabir's turn came. He had a very small life line. I asked him,"Hey,why your life line's so thin?' Everyone laughed at the new astrologer's prediction. But who knew that one day this apparently innocent incident will become reality.
Sabir started his internship standing first in the final professional exam. He had fever for a couple of days. The day before he died, he did his duty with a severe headache. The very next day I heard that he has been admitted into the ICU. He was senseless when he was taken to the emergency. He was diagnosed with cerebral malaria.
Ignoring his illness, Sabir served Dhaka Medical Medical till the end of his days. This is a feat never to be forgotten. He was engaged two days before his death. He attended the ceremony having fever. He thought it was viral fever, nothing to be concerned about. His wedding was scheduled three months later and he was supposed to go abroad for higher education with his wife. But he was taken from us at a very premature age.
Sabir, your memory is still so vivid among us. 18 years have passed, yet it's hard to believe you're not with us anymore. It's impossible for you to sink into oblivion. It seems like you're right here with us, as the friend we all loved so much. Wherever you are, we pray that you've found peace.

Very unfortunate incidence. Cerebral malaria? We, doctors, are busy treating others but neglect about ourselves :O May Allah keep him in Paradise.
