Our oil sources in the US are massive, and we have yet to even tap into most of them.

They can actually access that oil under LA via directional drilling. I would imagine they are holding out because the price of oil is too low right now. That or the residents are too resistant to the idea of drilling underneath their homes. OR its a political play for the US to hold onto all the Aces. :D Or all of the above.
