Twenty meters below the surface of Paris there exist around 300km (210 miles) long tunnels which are probably the creepiest place that you could possibly visit in your lifetime. In the time of Roman Empire this catacombs were just stone mines situated on outskirt of todays French capital. As the city grew throughout the years, buildings have started to be built right above this tunnels and even today most of them remain officialy unexplored and unmapped. If this dark and lonely tunnels aren't creepy enough for you then we should tell you that this place is also a home to around 6-7 million dead people who's remains were thrown in there in 18th century. In 1786, the bones of every Paris citizen who died here were digged out as city cemeteries became overflowed and people became worried for their health. This tunnels remained largely forgotten until it became a place for concerts and other private events in early 19th century. After some renovations tunnels were first time opened for public visitation in 1874.

Today you can visit just a small part of Paris catacombs with a tour group. The tour lasts about 45 minutes and it covers less than 2 km of tunnels. However, some entrances to "illegal" part of catacombs are still not sealed and many people often go there from their own curiosity. Some of those people never return as they lose concentration and forget their way out. If you want to see what this forbidden area looks like then we suggest you to check out this video:
