I would like to show you this gorgeous depiction of the city of Breslau from late 16th century. Back then the city was a part of the kingdom of Bohemia, nowadays it belongs to Poland and is known as Wrocław. Although the city was significantly damaged during World War II, many buildings seen in this picture survived to this day. I decided to track them all down.
- Saint Elizabeth Church. The tallest temple in the city, its tower is 91 meters tall. The reason for such monumental scale of this church was the fact, that it was a home temple for city's wealthiest merchants.
- Town hall
- Mary Magdalene Church, destroyed during the Second World War, then rebuilt in the 60s and 70s.
- Saint Dorothy's. Built to celebrate the peace treaty between kings of Bohemia and Poland.
- Corpus Christi Church. Originally the property of Knights Hospitallers
- Saint Christopher's. Small church, originally catering to the poorer inhabitants of the city.
- Saint Albert's. The dominican convent.
- Saint Vincent's. Former, franciscan monastery. Heavily damaged in WW2
- Saint Matthias'. This church used to belong to the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star
- Saint Mary's on the Sand.
- Church of the Holy Cross
- The cathedral.
- Saint Barbara's.
Very interesting post my friend. I find it very interesting to match early depictions/descriptions to the actual present day location.
