Just a week ago, I spent almost a week roaming the streets of Bacolod. When my vacation is about to end, I decided to make a quick stop in Cebu.
Since the port is just within the city limits, I headed to SM Seaside City, it's been a while since I visited the place, I guess it was a high time to go there. After buying a couple of pasalubong for my nieces and nephews, I decided to drop by at the Sky Park to check whats new in the area.
After a hearty meal at Spice Fusion, I wanted to lounge for a while but it was cut short as I need to rush to the airport. Just as I was about to leave the premise of Sky Park, I noticed a newly opened cafe. There are a lot of newly opened restaurants in the mall but that one was special.
I paused and took a couple of photos and immediately rushed to the taxi station. Along the way to the airport, I then check the place on Facebook.
The name of the cafe is Cat Cafe and obviously there are cats roaming around the cafe. Too bad that I was not able to see it before I had my meal, I would probably be dining there instead of Spice Fusion. I guess I have another reason to visit Cebu again soon.
But since I was not able spend some time at Cat Cafe, I'll just leave you with something interesting that involves our feline friends.
Cats vary in personality almost as much as people. There are shy cats, lazy cats, cunning, classy and cute cats. Many of these feline personalities have been instilled in heart the world over through lovable and laughable kitty characters.
Here are some of the famous and well-loved cartoon cats.
Tom from Tom & Jerry
Tom and Jerry are a cat and mouse pair that appeared in 114 animated shorts created between 1940 and 1959. The vast majority of these stories, consisted of Tom's mostly failed attempts to catch Jerry. However, it would appear that the pair shared a genuine friendship and Tom's chases were mostly spurred by rivalry, challenge or revenge.
In its heyday Tom and Jerry exhibited an unusually high amount of cartoon violence, thus providing inspirations for The Simpsons' Itchy and Scratchy cartoon.
Garfield
Garfield is a comic strip about a fat orange cat, created by Jim Davis in the late 1970s. Garfield is the epitome of laziness, demonstrated through his obsessive eating and hatred of Mondays and diets. The comic revolves around the relationships between Garfield, his owner Jon and dog, Odie.
Did you know that Garfield, yes the cuddly fat cat holds the Guiness World Record for the most widely syndicated comic strip and has spawned 2 animated TV series, 13 TV specials and 5 awesome films.
Hello Kitty
Hello Kitty is the little white kitten with her face on everything. The character first appeared on a vinyl coin purse in Japan in 1974 and made her way to the United States two years later.
Today, Hello Kitty appears on stationery, clothing, home appliances and in video games and animation.
There is an official Hello Kitty theme park, restaurant and maternity ward.
Puss in Boots
Puss in Boots is a 17th century French fairytale about a cunning cat who uses trickery to gain power, wealth and marry a princess.
The character of Puss in Boots has been rehashed many times and appears in several twisted fairytales and children's stories.
The most popular contemporary recreation of the character is that appearing in the Shrek film series, voiced by Antonio Banderas.
Sylvester
Sylvester is the famed black and white cat of the Loony Tunes clan. Sylvester sports a 'never say die' attitude, which he usually employs while trying to catch cunning yellow canary 'Tweety Bird'.
However, Sylvester has been known to chase mouse, Speedy Gonzales and a 'king-size mouse' which is in fact a joey kangaroo.
The Aristocats
The Aristocats follows the adventures of a family of pampered house cats trying to find their way home after being shipped off as part of a villain's plot to get his hands on their inheritance.
Duchess and her kittens learn that there's more to life than throw pillows and patté and that there's much more to alley cats than 'biting and clawing, and things like that'.
CatDog
The tale goes that "one fine day woof meet a purr, a baby was born and it caused a little stir". That baby was CatDog, a pair of conjoined brothers, one a cat and one a dog. The two are best of friends, despite being polar opposites.
While Cat enjoys fine art, classical music and well-established plots for personal gain, Dog is satisfied with bones, garbage trucks and pleasing others. Dog is usually roped into Cat's schemes without too much convincing, so the brothers often find themselves in sticky situations.
Cat in the Hat
Cat in the Hat is arguably the most popular character created by celebrated children's author Dr Seuss. Cat in the Hat appears in six Dr Seuss books - The Cat in the Hat, The Cat in the Hat Comes Back, The Cat in the Hat Song Book, The Cat's Quizzer, I Can Read with My Eyes Shut! and Daisy-Head Mayzie. He also acts as the narrator in Suessical the Musical.
The Cat in the Hat dresses in a red and white striped hat, a red bow tie and carries an umbrella. He brings trouble and chaos wherever he goes.
Felix The Cat
Felix was born in the silent film era of the 1920s and was the first animated character to gain enough popularity to draw cinema audiences. However as sound productions were introduced Felix's popularity faded.
Felix, along with his new Magic Bag of Tricks, experienced short revivals in 1936, 1953, 1988 and 1995. According to owner, Don Oriolo's blog, there are plans in development for a new television series.
This list only skims the surface of the best cartoon cats ever created, however it clearly demonstrates the multiple characteristics exhibited by felines.
From Garfield's laziness to Hello Kitty's innocence, it is plain to see why cartoon cats continue to delight young and old.
