I spend a lot of time searching internet for information on different subjects and from time to time I find some pieces which are sort of useless but interesting nevertheless :-)
One of such finds is A collection and Abridgement of Celebrated Criminal Trials in Scotland
Copyrigth for this book published in 1812 lapsed long time ago so you can download this book freely as pdf file from The Library of Congress.
If you still wonder if it's worth downloading then check few passages form that book:
and another one about royal clemency allowing the prisoner only to be hanged without having his tongue cut out ;-)

Fascinating. :)
I am also surprised of the modern thinking we can see in the first note from this book, it was written in 1812 after all.. :)
