Today in History, January 9, 2007, Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs unveiled the first iPhone that started the smartphone revolution.
It featured quad-band GSM cellular connectivity with GPRS and EDGE support for data transfer. This first-generation iphone was referred to as iPhone 2G because it was the last iPhone to ship with the old 2G EDGE network speed. Apple announced its successor, iPhone 3G on June 9, 2008.
