Guessing you have read In Cold Blood? If not, highly recommend it, just a classic book (literally). I read it for the first time last year, was blown away by how the murderers personalities could have easily translated to people nowadays, somethings change, others stay the same.
Devil in the White City is on my list to read this year. Another true story, taking place in Chicago during the 1893 World's Fair. A coworker of mine recommended it after finishing it a couple months back, he said he finished it in a week, couldn't put it down.
I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the suggestion. That World's Fair was one of the most amazing events in world history for the collection of important people who were in the same place at the same time and then those serial murders and the fire, etc. Some incredible people and events there.
With each passing year, I start to recognize more and more patterns that re-occur. Humans have had a lot of the same drives, desires, and flaws as we've always had, yet also the capacity for amazing goodness.
A couple of articles over the years + a good book.
What made you become so interested?
It's a really weird case. I like reading some old crime cases, both for the facts and for what they tell us about life and history at the time.

History is the best teacher after all.
An old time 'Making a Murderer' :)
