:P Personally, it seems to me that examples of our US history books being rampantly misleading at best abounds. I have done most of my learning in my adult life.

It's human nature to control the information people have access to and that impulse is not going to go away

I appreciate that you speak to this...in some ways it seems that it would be impossible for us to not try and 'control' the stream of information. And yet, the question is always to what extend and with what means is some other entity doing it.
