Science Fiction founder was born
It was the Year 1876 - on January 12 - Jack London was born! Who? Hmmm - I was wondering too first when I read this. No, he is not an Englishman. He is a famous writer, novelist, journalist, and social activist. He is considered as a pioneer in the world of commercial magazine fiction and became famous worldwide - one of the first writers that could live from their writing - he actually more or less invented Science Fiction.
What are his famous works you might know?
- The Call of the Wild
- White Fang,
- To Build a Fire
- An Odyssey of the North
- The Pearls of Parlay
- The Sea Wolf
He used to be very engaged politically and socially - kind of radical he favored unionization, the right of workers and the concept of socialism and wrote about it (often also in a non-fiction way) like:
- The Iron Heel
- The People of the Abyss
- The War of the Classes
Happy birthday to this great man. You have impacted the world positively so you deserve being celebrated. And to the custodian of this @history-trail thank you for reminding us of this great writer, you have done well. Bravo
My college Lit professors never mentioned Science Fiction when they taught Jack London. Denied! I was cheated and denied! I want my money back!
--Would ya believe I'm so old, a state university cost $3,000 a year, but now is $17,000 a year. What else went up that much in 30 years.
