There must be a myriad of the strangest creatures living in glacial and deepest of lakes ! The fact we never see them does not make their existance an impossibility ! You're dead on, the lakes and oceans are filled with creatures yet to be discovered. While that is known it is always assumed that the bigger ones could never stay hidden from us, I don't agree.
Time will tell.
