Hi everyone,
We still are at the black sea and while enjoying a nice cup of coffee I was searching for some nice pictures of my home town Haarlem in The Netherlands. Haarlem is an old city which inherited city rights around 1200 to build city walls around 50 years later. We live just outside the city walls, which do not exist anymore nowadays. Close to our house, outside the former walls, is a former madhouse (now museum). The location was chosen not to have the crazy people inside the city.
Nowadays the city has grown and places outside the walls are the best to live. A tip: if you like shopping, Haarlem is one of the best places to shop because of the many small boutique's in the many ancient streets.
Below some photo's from the past and a few to compare with nowadays. On this photo you can see the location of some former walls where the canal has a star like form:
There used to be a good tram network in town, this actually is our street:
Haarlem train station with tram tracks in front of it:
Nowadays trams have been replaced with busses:
Hope you enjoy some history from Haarlem. Please visit Amsterdam and Haarlem one day.
Regards,
Frank
