Olumo rock is one of the most famous tourist attractions in the city of Abeokuta, Ogun state, Nigeria.it was known to be a ‘’hiding place’’ by the Egbas during the times of war. The rock was unveiled by a notorious farmer named ‘Adagba’ who used the rock as a form of refuge against threat and wars.
Olumo rock is said to be honoured annually using human beings as its sacrifice. One of the things that baffles me about the rock is what I call the ‘’the four mysterious things about Olumo rock’’ which will be highlighted beneath;

• THE SERPENT: the snake was known to have crawled into the rock which was regarded as abomination, for this purpose it turned into stone, the snake is known visibly lay on a round rock in an obvious attempt to maneuver its way across the rock surface

• ITS GREAT HEIGHT: its height still remains a mystery to me measuring 137 metres above sea level. Olumo rock has been made easier to climb with man-made stairs carved into the rock. One of the things that baffles me about its height are the views one is able to capture, one of which is the first church of Nigeria, the central mosque, the river ogun etcdownload (4).jpg

• IYA ORISA: this remains one of the funniest and entertaining part to me. Iya Orisa was said to have aged 131 years. The woman witnessed the installation of about four kings of the egba kingdom and also used the rock as a source of shelter

I've been there myself, 16 years ago. Remember it like it was yesterday. I was only 8 years old so my parents wouldn't let me go to the top. I had to wait at the bottom and my older siblings climbed it.
