As the Karnataka government gears up to commemorate Tipu Jayanti on 10 November, sporadic incidents of violence is being reported. The state high court has struck down the petition to restrict celebrations this year.

Stones were thrown at a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation in Madikeri against Tipu Jayanti celebrations.

The District Administration in Kodagu has imposed Section 144 in the area ahead of Tipu Jayanti celebration, even as security has been tightened.

A large posse of policemen have been deployed in the sensitive places. No procession will be allowed in the city that is related to Tipu Jayanti, except for the one organised by the state government, according to the police.

It is said that History is written by those who are victorious. And it is also said that Lie or falsehood repeated 20 times, becomes truth. Modern age remembers only those who are talked more. For example, Indian Film music has many stalwart composers like Naushad, Shankar-Jaikishn, Madan Mohan, OP Nayyar, Roshan, Laxmi-Pyare, SD Burman, Chitalkar etc. But today's generation remembers only Pancham. Similarly, in the midst of Shakeel, Kaifi, Sahir, Shailendra, Rajinder Krishna, Anand Baxi, only Gulzar is remembered. Similarly in the rich culture of Kannadigas in all spheres whether Music, dance, literature (Don't have data but learnt that maximum number of Jnanpeeth awardees are Kannadigas), religion & social, science & technology. In spite of this, all are ignored, even Chenamma. But Jayanti is celebrated for Tipu. No doubt, he was great warrior, but it smack more of appeasement less of Karnataka pride.
