Interesting article, it does seem rather unlikely that societies without a division of labor would have much need for market based trade at all. However it seems that these are still systems of barter, even if it is highly ritualized and opertunistic instead of a regualr occurance. The transition into a market economy in a society with divisions of labor, would nessecitate some form of storing value. It may be impossible to find physical evidence in a living society because there exist no societies in that transitionary phase.
