UNplugged Radio Ep.23 - The Art of Lyricism Episode

in #hiphop7 years ago

In this episode, cousin GEM and I invited our good friend, artist, and classical pianist Saesha Monet to have a conversation about the important or lyricism in hip hop.

Oooo I am coming back to this later today!

hahahaha!!! Conversations while vacuuming are the realest mann! That sucks when they don't include the lyrics in the CD booklets LOL! I know there's google now, but it's not the same. Especially fellow artists, and even fans, we like to pick apart the lyrics & find things we might not understand fully when just listening.
Can you imagine a mumble rap lyrics booklet?

bib idib dibibidib DAH!

There is good new music being released daily! We DO have good new music today, it's just hard to find.

Come to Steemit GEM!

I think beats & music are JUST as important as lyrics too! If someones spitting some decent lyrics on a painful beat, i'll turn it off straight away.

I always think hip hop is a reflection of the times. They rhyme about what they see! Sometimes. And you'll notice how sick society is by the popular music that's coming out.
Then there's that argument about that letter that came out, if it's true or not, about that meeting that went down for gangster rappers to lead people to jail through music so the prisons can make more money. I don't know, I wasn't there lol.

Are mumble rappers a product of the crack era? Maybe..

This station has thousands of shows dedicated to playing good new music. Anything that aint fresh isn't hip hop.

Hip Hop is not dead, I promise. It is just unfairly misrepresented by people that call themselves Hip Hop!

Hip Hop is very much alive!! the Hip Hop we fell in love with ;) It only gets better with time!

Thanks Kay, for giving me thorough feedback on this. I told cousin he could talk about systematic oppression all day (LoL) but we're getting away from hip hop, which used to be the most fun conversations. So you know that I care very much so about my lyrics which brought about this whole conversation along with him wanting to touch on a few things in regards to this. Of course you know @saeshamonet is part of my Mob Barley crew so she was a shewing for this episode. When I found out the type of music that even someone like yourself really enjoys, it took me back. I thought everyone in the world was on the trap shit. But I soon came to find out thanks to my steemit friends that the average hip hop head all over the world likes the classical boom bap. That shit made me ecstatic because that has really been my style. So I guess where I thought that this my have been the age where it was fading, it was really very much so alive, as you said. Stay tuned we're going to be talking about the Eminem cypher and explore that very deeply as well. Thanks for always supporting ya boy. ;)

A lot of good points made here. I agree hip hop is not dead, just misrepresented in main stream.

Cameron... that's a name I haven't heard in a while.
