Back in the day I made the big move out West. Black Tusk was one of the first mountains I truly fixated my eyes on. The prominent features of the rock is easily identifiable, it's kind of hard to miss. I remember thinking "I can't wait to hike that one day".
Then life comes.
Here is me eyeing up the elusive rock from an adjacent mountaintop.
With a full time degree, athletic pursuits, life, hiccup after hiccup- somehow.. a decade flew by. Seriously.
Then summer 2021 came. Oddly enough it was a summer where it felt my partner and I were trying to knock off as many hikes as possible. It's almost like the universe knew we were going to be moving to Alberta just a few months after. The camping reservation fairies were on our side as we were able to secure a spot.
This mountain is doable in one day (over 30km and 1800m gain) However we chose to camp at the lake so we could do multiple summits during our time. We ascended up to the lake, parked our items, had a snack, and made our way to the top.
A peek at the peak we are after
Here is the goal, after doing much of the elevation already
A quick bout of vertigo due to the sheer drop offs, but what an adventure.
Frolicking amongst giants.
Sometimes, life just has its own plans and ideas. Im grateful in a way that it took me so long to get here- as I was already toying with the idea that I would be moving again. It was almost like closing my decade long chapter with the mountain I was so fond of. Life is always perfect with its timing in its own way.
Would you like to see the second summit from the next morning?

These are just incredible! There are so many epic photos here, but the 2nd last one seems very 'hang on the wall' worthy. It has everything in it. This is just stunning Sara and in answer to your question, Yes, yes I would. Thanks for sharing!
Aw thank you so much!! Yes it's one of my favourite images aswell actually. Appreciate you being here, and will post the second summit :)
Thanks Sara!
I don't think we'd get to it this year... but do you still offer a mountaining portrait experience? What area would we fly to/stay at for such a thing? I assume it would take a couple of days of hiking maybe?
Thats a great question! I do offer portraits, adventure sessions- anything to that nature. You can always send me an email anytime. saraboychuk@gmail.com - Cheers !! :)
