Here is The Teachers’ Day Observation at my school, Uttaraditdaruni School.
We made Panwaiikru(พานไหว้ครู) for our teachers every year on 2nd Thrusday of June.
The Waii is Thai tradditonal. It shows that you respect older people like teachers and parents.
Most of us go back to our old school like kingergarten, primary and secondary school to waii our teachers.
For this year, my classmates made Panwaiikru like Somtam (Somtam is Thai national food)
It was such an impressive ceremony. I’m glad I’d taken many pictures of it.
Did you notice the typical kinds of flowers presented to you by the students?
They are kinds of grass which grows very fast.
We call it “ya prag.” And these are egg-plant flowers which never fail to yield fruits.
They meant growth and development.
Can you the red flowers? We call those “dok khem” or “needle flowers.” That has meaning too: to be as sharp as a needle.
Before presenting these things to teachers, the students’d chanted and sang 3 songs (2 song for teacher and 1 song for school)
They chanted their thanks to all teachers, not only their present ones but also all great teachers of the world who’d started and developed education.
Now you can see why Thai students feel so grateful and obedient toward their teachers.
My classmates were making Panwaiikru.
These are my panwaiikru.
The right panwaiikru got 2nd runner up creative reward. It looks like Somtam :)
