Hey Family.
My old hero training group has a value challenge system.
It's pretty straightforward: take something you're uncomfortable with, write down why (and no detail is too silly or unimportant to include if you think of it), and then try it anyways. Once you have more perspective there, write down what you observed while it was it happening, and then compare your lists to see what's different.
It's supposed to show folks how they think about what's important to them, or something.
This challenge has come up again with one of my classmates though, just as something they've been through, and it got me thinking about what else it might actually be referring to. For them, it was just challenging their values about sex, but this sorta learning usually has more to it than that. Here's what else we thought of:
Sex Challenge symbols
- Are you willing to challenge your deep values at all?
- Are you willing to have a child or are you willing to teach?
- How far are you willing to challenge yourself to learn?
- How far can we push you for work and education before you break?
- How far can we push you for fun before you lose interest?
- How much does it take to teach you to decide for yourself what you want to do?
Spiritual growth does have a cost to it, but all paths lead to Home. The path you take matters in the grand scheme, but the difference is in the way you bring joy to others.
