Sukur World Heritage Site. -
The unique feature or cultural landscape of the Sukur Kingdom is that the people have existed within this environment and preserved their cultural heritage over the centuries, despite the strong current of external influences. -
In December 1999, the joint session of 23rd General Assembly of UNESCO adopted and enlisted Sukur as the 29th World Heritage Site, the first of its kind in Africa, other than the city of Johannesburg.
Sukur's cultural landscape covers 764.4 hectares, about 3,000 feet above sea level and is 17km off the Maiduguri road between Gulak and Madagali local government areas.
