What is a sleep disorder?
Sleep disorder is a medical disorder of a sleep patterns of a person or animal. Sleep disorder may affect your health quality and can cause multiple health problems if not you are take it seriously.
Common Type of Sleep Disorder
Insomnia
People have insomnia is harder to fall asleep or they are frequently wake up or they woke up too early. Usually, they don't get enough sleep at all and this will make them feel tired all day. Insomnia can be classified into two which is long term or short term insomnia. For long-term insomnia, usually caused by depression, anxiety and stress. While for the short term insomnia were caused by poor sleep habit, taking excessive amount of caffeine or medication issues.
Usually, people take a medication to treat insomnia such as lorazepam but people who suffer from insomnia need help on relaxation. You may use breathing exercise to make you relax before you sleep. Here is the exercise :
- Exhale completely through your mouth.
- Inhale through your nose to a count of four.
- Hold your breath for a count of seven.
- Exhale through your mouth for a count of eight.
- Repeat the cycle three times.
Some people use herbal supplements to treat insomnia. Herbs that usually uses is chamomile and Valerian root.
Snoring
During sleeping, all your body muscles are in relaxed condition. So if your throat muscle relaxes too much, it will block the breathing airway which causes snoring. In other cases, snoring is caused by asthma, allergies or nasal deformities. Snoring may be the first sign of obstructive sleep apnea.
There are multiple remedies on how to stop snoring. You have to change your sleeping position. Elevating your head about four inches make your breath more easily. There is also a pillow that design to reduces your snoring. Here is the link about the pillow . Then, snoring can be reduced if you are sleep on your side instead of your back. Other than that, you should try anti-snoring mouth device which can help to open your airway during sleeping. You also have to keep your bedroom air moist because dry air can make your nose and throat discomfort, a humidifier may help you solve this problem.
Snoring also can be reduced by changing your lifestyle or habit. You may lose your weight to reduce the fat in the back of your throat. Smoking can cause snoring too, so it is better to quit smoking if you want to stop snoring. last but not least, there is an exercise that may help you to stop snoring. You should try this.
Sleep Apnea
Sleep Apnea is a serious sleep problem, it may affect your health and your quality life. Sleep apnea described as when your breathing stop and paused for a few seconds during sleeping. And this usually happens more than one time per night. Common symptoms of sleep apnea are loud snoring, waking up with a dry throat or choking or gasping, sleepiness, restless sleep or morning headache.
Sleep Deprivation
Sleep Deprivation is described as a condition of having lack or not enough sleep. The main symptom of sleep deprivation is excessive daytime sleepiness but there are other symptoms such as :
- Moodiness
- Fatigue
- Depressed
- Forgetfulness
- Difficulty to learn something new
- Unable to focus
- Clumsiness
- Reduced sex drive
There are some effective method that can help you to get better sleep which is relaxation techniques, stimulation control and cognitive behaviour therapy. You also can use the medicational treatment, there is some drug that help you to overcome this problem such as benzodiazepines, non-benzodiazepine hypnotics, and melatonin receptor antagonists. Do consult an expert or a doctor before taking any type of this drug. Then, you have to pa all your sleep debt because it is necessary to start getting the sleep you need.
Restless leg syndrome
Restless leg syndrome is when someone has an urge to move the leg. There is often an unpleasant feeling in the legs that makes you to move them. Usually causes by genetic, chronic disease, medication and pregnancy.
There is a couple treatment for this disorder.The first thing is you should eliminating or decreasing the use of caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco.
Treatment using drug :
- Dopaminergic drugs
- Benzodiazepines
- Narcotic pain relievers
- Anticonvulsants or antiseizure drugs
Non-Drug treatment :
- Leg massages
- Hot baths or heating pads or ice packs applied to the legs
- Good sleep habits
- Vibrating pad
