I personally don't see the lure to the drugs myself. I had surgery recently and they gave me narcotic and non narcotic pain killers to take intermittently to keep the pain down. I literally had to pry myself out of bed long enough to go to the bathroom then right back to sleep I'd fall. It was more painful but after two days of that I stuck to the non narcotic pain relief.
