Depression is Like the Weather

By Jared Ciofalo

"The SoulTrekker"

Who told you life has to be perfect? Perfection is a lie. It doesn't exist.

Who the fuck said that you were not allowed to fail? Like somehow failure equates you to being incapable and a lesser form of human.

You are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress simultaneously. Forgive yourself for not knowing what you didn't know before you learned it.

Depression is like the weather. You can feel like you're doing everything "right"— living life to the fullest, eating well, taking care of yourself, working out—and yet the fog may roll in unexpectedly anytime.

And when the fog rolls in, all you can do is sit at the top of a hill, look out, see the larger view and remember who you are and the strength from which you came.

You are never alone.

I imagine a world where you seek help for depression, anxiety, etc. and you are told that because you have suffered in such darkness you have a deeper capacity to experience joy. You are being set up for tremendous brightness. How inspired people would be to go on the journey of transforming their pain, learning to feel their feelings and build a new emotional structure to live within.

Hope is everything.

“Sorrow and suffering cut deep grooves in the soul, and these are for joy to fill. Without these grooves - those pits and scars of the pain of existence - joy just slips right off a person like melting butter on a tipped skillet.“

-Dr. Ambrose Delasco
