Do you ever feel overwhelmed by conflicting health studies about your favorite beverage? Sure, no study result could be as terrifying as an empty coffee cup at 7 o’clock in the morning, but there’s a ton of information out there. Who has time to sift through it all? Well, researchers at the universities of Southampton and Edinburgh did. Go ahead and pour yourself a second cup of joe. I think you’re ging to like the results.
After reanalyzing that data on more than 200 existing studies, researches concluded that moderate coffee consumption is safe and “more likely to benefit health than to harm it.” Findings were published Nov. 22 in The BMJ, a British medical Journal. The sweet spot appears to be three to four cups per day. That’s the range that researchers say is associated with the lowest risk of heart disease and death compared to non-coffee drinkers.
