Eggs have been associated with high cholesterol content and should be limited to those with a history of hypertension and stroke in the family.

But recent research has found new facts. Consumption of one egg every day is reported can actually lower your chances of heart disease and stroke in the future.

To obtain these findings researchers from China and the UK led by Professor Liming Li and Dr Canqing Yu from Peking University analyzed data from more than 400,000 adults in China aged between 30 and 79.

A total of 416,213 participants selected for this particular study did not have previous cancer, cardiovascular or diabetes experience. They were asked how often to eat eggs.

After initial research, their health status was then followed up for nine years. Professor Li and Dr Yu decided to directly compare the results of 13.1 percent of participants stating that they eat eggs daily and 9.1 percent of respondents who confirmed that they never or almost never consume eggs.

Researchers found that those who ate eggs daily had a reduced risk of hemorrhagic stroke, which occurs when there is bleeding in or around the brain by 26 percent.

Egg eaters are also at 28 percent less likely to suffer deaths caused by hemorrhagic strokes and at 18 percent lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease. Not only that, they also risk 12 percent less likely to develop ischemic heart disease.

"Our findings suggest that daily consumption of eggs has been linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, ischemic heart disease, major coronary heart disease, hemorrhagic stroke and ischemic stroke among middle-aged adults in China," Professor Li told Nypost.com.

However, Professor Nita Forouhi of the University of Cambridge said that the overall diet of participants should be taken into account when assessing the results of the study.

"In the Western context, if you eat eggs with lots of processed white bread, processed meats such as meat and sausages and sugar-rich tomato sauce, the risks will be different from those who eat eggs with whole grain bread and vegetables," he explained.
