Whenever we observe a cytology with suggestive signs for HPV, we must take into account each of the cytomorphological characteristics that allow us to reach this conclusion.
Diagnostic report
Type of Sample: Exo-Endo Cytology
Sample quality: Sample satisfactory for evaluation
Absence of cells from the transformation / Endocervical zone
General Category: Epithelial cell abnormality
Result: Low-grade intraepithelial lesion (HPV)
Observations: Surface cells with pyknotic, eosinophilic nuclei are observed; intermediate cells with nuclear hyperchromasia, basophilic. Nuclear enlargement, hyperchromasia, koilocytic cavities, with cytoplasmic reinforcement. Moderate polymorphonuclear and bacillary flora. Diagnostic conclusion: Atypical cell changes of squamous cells, corresponding to a low-grade intraepithelial lesion by the human papillomavirus (HPV).
Note: If a major lesion is suspected, perform a biopsy for histological evaluation.
