Searching for the Zen of balance

in #health7 years ago (edited)

We are all searching for that perfect balance in our lives.

How can we figure out what we really want and then get it?

How can we be happy and centered?

That is the grande enchilada we all want, and the small bite of it this post focuses on deals with mindfulness and motivation.

I believe each of us create our life, and where we are right now is a culmination of our choices, both conscious and unconscious.

If we do not like where we are at, we have the power to create positive change.

For example, most of us either would like to lose weight or gain weight: Very few of us can look at our body and love it just the way it is. We have a belief that we are not good enough, and if we can change the underlying belief, our bodies will naturally manifest the new belief and adjust to the weight our belief system says is right for us. If we accept and love our bodies just the way they are, right now, then the healthy choices we make for food and exercise will bring about lasting change.

Positive affirmations always have a more beneficial, long-term effect than negative self talk, punitive dieting, and other types of "fix the problem" behavior. How we look is not the problem: It is how we believe we should look that causes us grief.

I know that each person has a purpose in this life. Living that purpose is the source of our greatest joy and fulfillment.

Finding and defining our purpose is a life-long process that requires focus and motivation. We need to clear away old habits and limiting beliefs so we can access all the power of positive change that is available to us, and Feng Shui is one path to clearing old beliefs that really works.

A basic tenet of Feng Shui is that our outside surroundings are a mirror of our inner space, so if we clean up and bring order to a messy area and get ride of junk, we clear and open space inside for the universe to fill with new and wonderful things. Try this as an experiment: Pick one spot in your house or office that is really messy and cluttered, so bad that it has been ignored for months, and clean it. Not just halfway either..., but make it a place that reflects your higher self and gives you peace to be there.

That in itself is very valuable; creating a space we find pleasure in! Even more importantly, however, is the fact that we have gotten rid of the burdens and underlying beliefs that caused the area to be so messy in the first place. We now have a wonderful clear interior space to redecorate and populate with positive affirmations, blessings, and invitations to beauty and prosperity.

Every one of us possesses the power to change our beliefs and become our highest, true self living a life of purpose.

I think that a person cannot make meaningful changes in life unless he or she can first become self-aware of where they are in the present moment.

That conscious self-assessment (prompted by internal or external factors) then leads to desires for change. There is a whole connected path of causality that leads from self-knowledge through desire, motivation, intent, and finally action (even more importantly, successful action!). It is all connected with the pursuit and practice of mindfulness, and living in the present moment.

One of the most powerful levers of change we can make in our lives is to have a consistent meditation practice that we engage in at least once a day. It does not need to take hours, nor do you have to be an ascetic hermit to successfully meditate. we merely need to take some time, each day, to clear our mind and observe what our mind does, how our body feels, and where our breath goes. We let our real selves come out of hiding.

I want to help you consciously choose to create the life you dream of. That is why I write this blog.

One specific thread I explore in these posts is how to leverage mindfulness training to enhance a person’s ability to make and achieve positive goals using the concepts of priming and automaticity (subconscious for the most part but brought into awareness through mindfulness training) to re-paradigm limiting beliefs and habits.

It is common for people to want to do something that they know benefits them, and which they have the resources and scaffolding to accomplish, but they still fall short of their goal. Think dieting and exercise as the most universal examples, but it is also a large problem in organizations for work performance.

As a consultant to small business owners I meet a lot of highly driven, motivated people that are also engaged in self-defeating behaviors. It is very instructive how much weight comes off their shoulders when they realize that the power to change is already in them.

Self awareness is the key to change, but it is also very difficult to develop sometimes. My goal is to research and develop a process of mindfulness practices that connects that path of causality and leads to repeatable, measurable improvements in motivational outcomes and observable actions. Then share it, so we can all live in the present moment.

Namaste.

Just yesterday I was feeling discontent inside my own room. I felt better avoiding it and escaping it and staying away as long as possible. But shouldn't such a personal space be more welcoming?

So I cleaned and moved things around! It made a huge difference, but I know there's still work to be done. Something still feels "off", but I'm sure I can get it to the point where it brings me peace again.

What does this have to do with anything? Haha you mentioned Feng Shui. So that might be something for me to look into more, as I try to turn my room into a more balanced place.

Hi @reos, thank you for the comment! That is exactly what Feng Shui does, it gives us a proven way to balance our inner selves and bring us peace. When I first heard of it I was kind of resistant but I have come to realize that if I feel discord in my surroundings there is probably discord inside myself that needs to be addressed. Else why would I let my surroundings get messed up? This is a good place to start looking at Feng Shui, it is not strictly traditional but Dana makes it work wonderfully. http://www.fengshuidana.com/

Good for you! It's exactly like @presentminded mentions - the inner and outer world reflect each other. So changing your beliefs (inner world) is the way to change the reality of your life (outer world). But, it also works the other way around! You ever heard for instance that smiling, just the act of smiling even when you're not feeling happy, releases hormones that end up making you feel happy? And of course, yoga is a science to bring balance and harmony to the body, which heals and clears up the inner world as well. Not familiar with the practices of Feng Shui though. But from the above post, sounds interesting! Might be something to look into more for me as well! :)
