JANAUBA
Belonging to the Apocynaceae family, Janauba has a scientific name Himatanthus drasticus (Mart.) Plumel.
Known by other popular names such as, tiborna, janaguba, pau santo, raivosa, dona joana, sabéu uma, sucuúba, banana de papagaio, angélica da mata e jasmim manga.
According to research carried out at the Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA), phytochemical analyzes revealed that this plant has presents compounds belonging to the classes of alkaloids and tannins, which may be potentially active in biological and pharmacological models.
It also presents coumarins with antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antioxidant potential; besides the antifungal and hypocholesterolemic potential of the saponins.
Known in folk medicine, it can be found in street markets in regions where the plant is native.
