Leprosy? Yes it still exist!

in #health7 years ago

Leprosy, an identified plague before the birth of any religion. It's a disease where your skin is the primarily affected body. If proper treatment is not provided and the disease got worse, it may affect muscles in nerves and it can cause body deformation. This disease eats soft cartilages first of a human body like the nose and ears.

As part of health advocacy that our office is pursuing, we support the total eradication of Leprosy. With the support from the Regional DOH Office-MiMaRoPa and the Provincial Health Office of Oriental Mindoro, we are on our initial steps on combing every community, especially those vulnerable high, to catch every leprosy afflicted members.

We came upon a strategy to call the attention of all community member who is experiencing skin ailment to submit themselves to scheduled medical missions in selected areas. Through that, it will be an open gate to any kind of skin disease. With the trained medical practitioner and thorough physical examinations, presumptive leprosy patients are identified. A sample of blood from slit skin procedures are done for the disease confirmations.

This disease affected the community for too long, but ita not too late to put accurate actions to inhibit its progress and to be a public health threat again. We will never get tired to shout and spread the correct information about Leprosy to increase the community awareness and to eliminate discrimination or stigma. And we will never get grossed of any skin illnesses to provide correct management and to bring hope to the community that still, even having debilitating sickness, they can live a normal life.
