"WELL TOMORROW IS MONDAY AND THAT MEANS A NEW DIET" SOMEONE SAID KETO !!

in #health8 years ago

I am 61 years old in A-fib retired/disabled 6' 570lbs and worked 6 day's a week from 1974 to 2008 and now I have to make a major change, I have been on Nutri-system, Weight watchers, Opti-fast and every other diet under the sun. I end up losing for the first three or four weeks then I celebrate and go right back up plus. The most I have lost was in 2008 when I ended up in the hospital with a-fib and lost 140lbs in 6 weeks, my weight was 580 I went down to 440 and felt like a million dollars, eventually it all came back on. I refuse to get the Gastric bypass because I know a lot of people that had it and gained their weight back, most of them are sick. This may be one of my last shots of losing weight, I was told to try this Keto diet, any suggestions from people that have been on it would be helpful.

Hi Kevin,

Let me start out with telling you that seeking a dietary correction without seeking the supportive therapy for the addiction will not work. You are a product of your surroundings Kevin. I have been an addict and and addiction counselor and food addiction is the hardest addiction to kick. Unlike other addictive substances, food is something we must have to survive. Because of that, we have to reteach ourselves to be conscious of the products that bring us harm, which includes food. In today's world of processed foods there are so many chemicals specifically selected to stimulate the pleasure center of our brains that eating can be related to heroin.

What you are dealing with is a terrible addiction Kevin and contemporary diets are not the answer. I implore you to consider a plant based whole food lifestyle. This is not something you do overnight and as you are well aware there will be many failures and setbacks along the way. I strongly recommend seeking out a counselor who has dealt with food addictions and a MD that is aware of our western dietary faults.

You stated you also suffer from A-fib? Do you have a pace maker or is this something being controlled with pharmacopoeia? The dangers of this alone are massive and with your current situation you should be seeking all the help you can get.

Here is a list of doctor's that you can start watching on YouTube to give you an idea of what I mean by plant based whole foods. I have been working over the years to try to keep people I know aware of the dangers in our food system. It is a very steep uphill battle. I wish you the best and please contact me if you wish.

I do not have a pace maker, I am on coreg, lisinopril, spironolactone, eliquis, and celebrex. I was also on amiodorone (rat poison) when i first went in to a-fib in 2008 but my hair started falling out. this was the doctor I talked to over the phone but all plant and beans made me have no energy at all.

thanks for the award.

keto is asking for heart disease and other problems (because of the typically high-meat consumption), but other than they just do not eat carbs whatsoever.
If you're on keto, especailly at your weight, carbs will cause HUGE blood-sugar spikes, even if they're starches.

That's why I personally went on a high-carb low fat diet (opposite of keto basically), lost down to 160~ lbs no trouble. Just ate as many baked potatoes, fruits, meusli, etc, and even gourging myself and eating till I was stuffed I lost weight.

I been on the keto diet for a while and it's my new life way of eating, I recommend it to many people but not every diet is for everyone. The best thing to do is try it and see how you feel and if it's for you then continue on it. The keto diet is 75% fat 25% protein and 5% carbs/sugars, it's hard for many people because it's the total oppesite of what the fda crap information that they been tellings us about. If your interested in this diet I will do my best to infor you and help you along the way.
