Great post! So if this PQQ is beneficial to the brain's function, is it possible that it can also help lessen, if not heal, the effect of Alzheimer's? I hope researchers can do further studies about this.
@xxxirenexxx, that's a great point! PQQ is actually an amazing tool in this regard, exactly how you suggest it might be... Here are two studies that show "PQQ also protects nerve cells from the damaging effects of the beta-amyloid-protein linked with Alzheimer’s disease."
1)Rucker R, Chowanadisai W, Nakano M. Potential physiological importance of pyrroloquinoline quinone. Altern Med Rev. 2009 Sep;14(3):268-77.
2)Kim J, Kobayashi M, Fukuda M, et al. Pyrroloquinoline quinone inhibits the fibrillation of amyloid proteins. Prion. 2010 Jan;4(1):26-31.
I am truly saddened about what this disease is doing to people and I just wish scientists and medical researchers can do something about it. Hopefully these breakthroughs will end the suffering of people with Alzheimer's and their families.
