Hi, it always absolutely pays to eat as healthily as you can.
Chemotherapy for cancer treatments works by targeting faulty cells in your body which grow or divide quickly which is basically what cancer cells do. Sadly, it can also damage cells that normally grow or divide quickly, such as hair follicles and in the mouth lining and in cells in the digestive system which causes the common side effects of nausea, mouth ulcers and hair loss.
So unlike in your question, it doesn't destroy and damage everything, just the cancer and some collateral damage shall we say,
The chemo drugs stay in your body for approximately 48 hours after ingestion so eating healthily is important as the nutrients in the food aren't damaged and will still be taken in by your body so eating and drinking water is very important to keep your digestive tract moving even if you are throwing up. The food and nutrients help keep up your strength as your body's immune system is fighting the cancer as well as the chemo, so hydration is extremely important. Keep drinking and keep going to the toilet to flush out the waste products from the chemo.
So the answer is basically YES. Stay eating as healthily as possible......BUT
Having cancer is obviously a serious terrible thing to have and deal with so psychologically, for your own well being, eat what the hell you like if it makes you feel better. You know your own body and your own mind and deal with this in whatever way you can.
If you are suffering or one of your loved ones are suffering, you are in my thoughts and I wish you best wishes for the future.
Thanks for such a detailed answer and your kind words
You're welcome :-)
