How you can plant ginger and turmeric easily at home

in #health5 years ago

Ginger has been known for centuries, and is believed to originate in India. It is one of the most popular spices, after use it is second only to pepper.

It is very easy to grow at home so you can have it on hand anytime you want.

When buying ginger, make sure that the one in the shops can be treated with fungicides and pesticides, and coated with an anti-growth agent so that it does not germinate on the shelves.

The best time to plant ginger is between spring and fall. If you have decided to plant it in a pot, be sure to choose one that is larger (or wider because the root grows wide) and has good drainage because ginger takes a lot of water in summer, so care should be taken not to dry the soil as the root then will not develop well.

But if the soil is too steeped in water, the ginger root could rot. So make sure that you keep the soil moist, which will not be overly soaked.

If you want to plant ginger in the garden, the perfect time is from April to June. You will be able to enjoy the harvest as early as October or six to eight months after planting, although you can taste it only after three to four months.

For planting, you need a piece of fresh ginger root, which has visible protrusions. New shoots will break out there. If the ginger root you plan to plant is dry, allow it to soak in warm water for at least three hours before planting.

You need quality soil, organic compost and sand.

Fill 2/3 of the compost pans mixed with a little sand.

Then insert a piece of fresh ginger into the compost so that only the "eye" is visible.

Add a layer of soil to cover the ginger root. Pour.

To keep as much moisture in the ground as possible, you can cover the container with a plastic bag. Place the pan in a place partially exposed to sunlight. One month after planting, green shoots will appear and you can then remove the plastic bag and place the ginger jar in a room with light.

The temperature that will suit the plant is about 24 degrees. This is also the time when you can transplant ginger. Do this while the shoots are still small. You do not need to remove all the soil around the roots, and if the tuber is large enough you can divide it and plant it separately. This will give the plant more room to grow.

When the stem is about a meter high, you can remove the tuber or just the part you plan to use, and you can re-plant the rest.

Turmeric is a perennial herb that belongs to the same family as ginger, and comes from southern Asia. It is not difficult to maintain and its beautiful flower will be the decoration of your balcony or home.

The heat and humidity and the partial or complete shade of it are pleasing to her. When it is ripe, you can take it out of the ground and take as much as you need and leave the rest to grow.

The best time to plant is in February. It is also grown from tubers, preferably those with many smaller protuberances and which are not dried. It takes about 10 months for the turmeric to mature and be ready to harvest. It must be protected from the cold, and grows best in temperatures of 20 to 30 degrees.

Leave the turmeric root in a dark place for a few weeks until it sprouts. Arrange the parts of the sprouted tuber in a mixture of compost and sand 5 cm apart. Cover with earth and water. The projections should be facing upwards.
