                             Yes it is true that flaxseed can be a substitute for the vegetarians because it contains alpha linolenic acid (ALU) while fish have a eicosapentoic acid (EPA) and docosapentoic (DHA) . Both these are derived from ALA .this ALA converted into DHA & EPA  in our body . This conversion is in higher rate in females than males.
                                    Flaxseed contain antiinflammatory  omega3 fatty acid,  vitamin B1 (thiamine) , mineral like mangnese, magnesium ,selenium cupper and smaller amount of zinc ,iron etc. In its two spoon. It is golden brown in colour and great source of dietary fibres , antioxidant like LIGNANS. They are richest source of LIGNANS.
                                                        They contain higher amount of dietary fibres which contain mucilage which is water soluble ,it hasten the emptying process of food from stomach to small intestine which increases the nutrients absorption. Its other soluble and insoluble dietary fibres help in colon detoxification process.

TWO TABLE SPOON OF FLAXSEEDS PROVIDE A COMPLETE DIETARY FIBRES FOR A HEALTHY PERSON.

ALA fatty acids with vit. B which can reduce s dryness and flakiness. It can also improve symptoms of rosacea, acne, eczema etc.

As I already tolds about its antioxidant properties due to high amount of LIGNANS.
LIGNANS are phytoestrogen which act like our estrogen hormone ,it can increase and decrease estrogen level which depends upon the hormonal status of the individual. LIGNANS also have antiviral and antibacterial activities.they also supports probiotics of gut.

LIGNANS in intestine is converted into the enterodiol and enterolactone which supports the harmony balance in the body.

Flaxseed should be use in sprouted forms for more nutrient absorption .it can be used in grinding form ,it's oil is also very beneficial .
