Nice post. The article Cardiovascular medicine (Impact factor 1,6) raises and important question about that validity of the increased cholesterol, increased mortality-hypothesis. My view is that the hypthesis is false and that high LDL-cholesterol is healthy (given you do not have a genetic disease affecting lipoprotein). LDL also has an important function in the body as a scavanger (i.e. bacterial endotoxins). Statins ('anti'-cholesterol) medicine, such as atorvastatin (Lipitor, blockbuster, huge cash cow for Pfizer) decrease risk of myocardial infarction. However, I do think the mechanism is via the anti-inflammatory effect of statins and not the cholesterol lowering effect.
