Glad I'm not alone in seeing this trend of hallucinations as "spirituality". As if to say we can't examine our own inner life to fix flaws that cause pain without a drug. I wish mainstream writers were more honest about the down sides of taking these drugs instead of pushing them as a shortcut to "spirituality". Growing up in the 70's I was surrounded by plenty of drug users, who, of course, always said these drugs were good for me (just like doctors tell us, and not always right), or nothing bad will happen. I didn't try to find out because their character and choices left much to be desired. Later, I observed, they were no better off for having taking these drugs for either recreational or spiritual reasons.
Spirituality. What an elusive term. It's too bad people mistake of pushing one perspective of anything, which requires a whole picture of all the information to make an informed personal choice.
