Hello everyone!
My name is Temisan Gabriel O., known on steemit community as @gabtemis. I'm a DRINKiQ ambassador. Today and subsequently I'll bring to us facilitated conversation about alcohol, it's effects and how we can further convey what we know about alcohol and responsibility to a wider audience including those who do not drink.
DRINKiQ forms one part of Diageo's overall Responsible Drinking Strategy, which we'll discuss briefly.
The program was initially created in Australia in 2003 by Diageo and was so popular that Diageo expanded it's use both internally and externally. Today, Diageo continues to gift this program to a wide variety of audience including University students, Transport authorities and Sports Club.
I'm only facilitating this discussion as a guide, not the expert. And whether you drink or not, I hope you remain involved and engaged in the conversation, now and subsequently. As it is an opportunity to share information discussed here with your family and friends.
DRINKiQ objectives
DRINKiQ is an opportunity to discuss relevant topics surrounding alcohol and responsible drinking. It is a conversation intended to:
• Raise our collective "DRINKiQ"
• Empower participants with information and increased understanding of alcohol issues
• Provide information to enable participants champion responsible drinking
Why do we drink?
First, what are some of the reasons people drink alcohol?
Possible answers are: for enjoyment, celebrations, accompaniment of food, events, sociability, taste, relax, de-stress, award and oftentimes escape.
Secondly, who or what influence our decisions about drinking?
Possible answers are: friends, family, religion, culture and celebrations.
So, we see that there are a variety of reasons and influences on our decisions to drink.
What does Responsible drinking mean?
The phrase 'drink responsibly' is a reminder that has been around for decades, if not centuries.
As an individual, responsible drinking means
• Making choices based on our physical characteristics and circumstances
• Knowing the choices we make are our responsibility
• Our choices have an impact on ourselves and others
And that sometimes the best choice is not to drink at all. Of course people always frown at this possibility, but it's actually the best course of action.
**In summary, responsible drinking means making responsible choices for yourself, keeping in mind the effects your choices could have on others. **
Diageo's global responsible drinking objectives
Diageo seeks to create a more positive role for alcohol in the society via
• Setting world class standards for responsible marketing and innovation
• Providing information and resources to consumers so they can make informed choices about drinking or not drinking
• Combating alcohol misuse by working with others to reduce alcohol related harm
You can learn more about each of these areas by visiting DRINKiQ.com
