We are now 5 days into 2018 and the days are counting fast already, I believe you had a great 2017 and also hope you have a better 2018.

Although I'm not a fan of new year resolutions, (don't get me wrong , I believe in them but I just don't believe you have to wait for the new year to start something new and good), if you have a fitness goals in your 2018 resolutions, that's great, but if you do not, it's never too late to add it to your daily plans. It doesn't matter when you start, as far as you do, it's all good.

With that said, now that you have decided to include fitness plans for the new year, if you're having doubt about your capacity to reach it or stick with the plan, I believe I can be of help to you. I have listed a few tips below which would really help you become more effective with your workout plan and help you achieve your goals this year. The first is to;

Define your Fitness Goal:

Firstly, you need to decide what you plan to achieve, it could be

  • Weight Loss
  • Endurance building ( e.g Distance Covered while jogging or sprinting, Number of sit ups or push ups etc)
  • Gaining muscle mass e.t.c

You have to set a goal and make it realistic. This will help you measure you success over time.

Breakdown You Goals Systematically

What I'm saying is, if you have a big target (e.g you want to increase your push ups reps to over 200 per day this year), you have to break it into bits, that is, weekly and monthly targets and stick to the plan. If you don't meet your milestones, keep going, don't stop.

Fit Your Goals Into Your Schedule

Don't over run or extend your sessions unnecessarily. This will wear you out and set you back. Why not work your plans into your daily life style and kick it up a notch on free days. Take a few spare time before heading out in the morning and a few more when you get back later in the day. Its easy to fit your workout session into your busy schedule.

Rest and Good Nutrition are Really Important

I always advise people I work with to a have a rest day between weekly workout. I've observed that with good rest and diet , I work out better. When I don't rest well or eat well, I feel lousy and not sharp in training, this can eventually lead to setbacks on set goals. A rest day is also a secret to increasing motivation for the other days of practice.

Have A Work Out Buddy

Consistently working out with a set of people or at least a friend helps a lot. It creates a relaxed competitive environment. It makes you more accountable and reduces the chances of skipping your session. You need to try this by all means.

Be Patient

I know sometimes, it's always difficult to wait, but abs and a shredded body will take a little time but you have to enjoy your daily sessions while not checking for results all the time. This is the number one cause of frustration and dropping out with beginners. The result will soon come but you have to be patient with yourself and not push yourself to the extreme. Keep doing the right things and following your instructor and you will be there in little time.

Dont Cheat Yourself

Always stick to your workout plan and always start and finish your sessions. Never chicken out. This doesn't only hurt physically but also mentally. You need to build your motivation for your workout and also build a mentality that finishes every project started. This helps to achieve goals even outside fitness.

Trust me, there are more tips but these will surely help you with your goals this new year. I will appreciate every question asked and will be here to respond to the best of my knowledge and experience.

Happy New Year Everyone!!!
